The Delhi High Court today asked the CBI to clear within two months all outstanding bills of the government lawyer and those who have been appearing in the court cases on various grounds.
A bench of justices Kailash Gambhir and Sunita Gupta has directed standing counsel and public prosecutors to provide details of their pending bills alongwith a photocopy of their expenses to the concerned department by next week.
"The CBI has to clear all pending or outstanding bills of standing counsel, public prosecutors and those who have been appearing for various matters in the Delhi High Court, within two months," the court said.
During the proceedings, counsel informed the bench that the probe agency (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate and the Economic Offence Wing were not clearing outstanding bills of former and current public prosecutors and standing counsel.
The high court has been monitoring the issue of delay in court trials since 2009 due to insufficient public prosecutors and non-payment of fees to them.
