The Calcutta High Court today directed West Bengal government to pay by August 2 Rs three lakh to a victim of acid attack in South 24-Parganas district.
Refusing to allow the state government's prayer for extending time for paying the compensation, Justice Joymalyo Bagchi said that the failure to comply would amount to violation of the high court's order.
Justice Bagchi directed that the state government would have to comply with the order of paying the compensation to the victim by August two, the next date of hearing.
Justice Bagchi had on July 12 directed the state to pay Rs three lakh as compensation to the victim within two weeks.
The state government today sought time to take the finance department's clearance with regard to the payment.
Refusing to entertain the plea, Justice Bagchi expressed his displeasure wondering how after the high court's order there could be any need for consulting the finance department.
Some miscreants had thrown acid on the victim, a resident of Joynagar in South 24-Parganas district, on November 17 last year.
She had named some persons in an FIR filed with police. The main accused is in judicial custody.
