The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court today directed Tamil Nadu Government to shift the West Karur Sub-Registrar office to the newly constructed building, which remained unoccupied for the last eight months.
Justice T Sivagnanam and Justice G Chokalingam, disposing a PIL by M Chinnasamy a former minister, now in DMK, said the Principal Secretary of Commercial Tax and Registration should take steps within two months to shift the office to the new building.
The petitioner submitted that the sub-registrar office was now functioning in a private rented building without basic facilities.
The new building had been constructed spending crores of rupees and infrastructure was lying idle. The government officials were not showing administrative will to open the building and use it, Chinnasamy submitted.
The Karur district Registrar said that it was the policy decision of the Government. He submitted that he had sent representation to the Government on March 31 to open the building. But no action had been taken so far.
