The Madras High Court today directed the authorities to make all necessary arrangements including basic amenities for the 'Thaipoosa Jyothi Darisanam' festival at Vadalur in Cuddalore district on January 31, which draws lakhs of devotees from across the state.
The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddose gave the direction after it took Suo Motu notice of a letter written by one Selva Kumar of Nagapattinam in December last year, in this regard.
In the letter, Kumar mentioned that nearly five lakh devotees are expected to attend the 'Thaiposa Jyothi Darisanam' festival.
Basic amenities such as toilet and bathroom facilities were not sufficient to meet the requirements of such a huge crowd, he said.
Hence, he had prayed for a court direction to the district authorities and the state government to provide basic amenities for the huge pilgrims who will gather at Vadalur in Cuddalore district, on January 31.
When the matter came up, Special Government Pleader submitted that all arrangements were made including temporary rooms for changing clothes for the women.
