The Madras High Court today directed its Registrar General to submit a status report on the communication made to the government for providing generators or inventors for the smooth functioning of all courts in the state.
The First Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh made the direction on a PIL by Chitravelu, an advocate, seeking a direction to install generators or inventors in all courts in the state.
The petitioner said the power cuts were affecting the functioning the courts.
He submitted that courts should not be made dependable on the supply of power by the Electricity Board and must be put to a situation to manage their own needs by providing generators or invertors.
Hence he prayed for a direction to the Registrar General, Madras High Court, State Law Department and the Chairman, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, to take necessary steps to provide generators or invertors to each and every Court in Tamil Nadu.
