HC directs RML Hospital to treat 8-yr-old child

The Delhi High Court today directed Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital here to treat an eight-year-old child, who is suffering from a serious disease Hemangioma (nodule on a body part) since birth, after his father alleged that AIIMS was not providing him the required treatment.
A bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru directed the petitioner, Lal Singh, to take his bed-ridden child to the RML Hospital on September 9 for treatment and asked the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to communicate the same to the RML Hospital.
"Petitioner (Singh) is directed to present himself before the Medical Superintendent of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on September 9. It is further directed that the course of action be taken by the concerned authorities at the earliest. AIIMS will communicate the order to RML Hospital," the bench said.

The petition was filed against AIIMS by Mayur Vihar resident Lal Singh alleging his minor son was undergoing treatment for the disease at AIIMS since his birth but the ailment has not been cured yet.
Singh alleged the doctors at AIIMS did not prescribe any medicine to the child and avoided him on the pretext of re-discussion.
It said "if the doctors would have injected steroids on the infected area in the initial days of the treatment, he would have been cured."

The plea, filed through advocate Asit Kumar Roy, sought a direction to set up a medical board for providing proper treatment to the child on priority basis to save his life.

According to the petition, in April 2008, the doctors had refused to perform any surgery saying it was not required.
In August this year, the child was referred to the Safdarjung Hospital here for plastic surgery but was sent back to AIIMS.
"If there is no treatment with the concerned doctors of AIIMS, a medical board can be set up to take a decision for providing proper treatment to the petitioner. It is the highest research institution of India where the government spends huge amount of money.
"The little boy has been suffering tremendous pain and is unable to move and is worried for his life," the plea said.
