The Madras High Court bench here today directed External Affairs Secretary and Secretary of Overseas Indian Affairs to take steps to bring the body of a Tiruchirappalli-based driver, who died in London.
Justices Rajeswaran and Mathivanan, admitting a habeas corpus petition filed by T Selvi whose brother died in London, said "the two respondents should take steps to bring the body as early as possible."
Selvi said her brother S Raja was woking in a supermarket in London. After May 23 last year, there was no call from him.
The counsel for the petitioner said it had been confirmed that Raja was dead and sought the court's direction to bring the body, which was kept in the mortuary of an hospital in London.
She said she had given petitions to the Tiruchirappali District Collector and Superintendent of Police in this regard but no action was taken.
