"We are of the view that the two persons/leaders are entitled to get police protection at least by two police personnel with arms round the clock from 6PM today pending further orders", a Division Bench, comprising Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice R. Mahadevan, said in its interim order on a plea seeking security for the leaders filed by PMK president G K Mani, MLA.
The plea was first heard by Single Judge K.K.Sasidharan who referred the matter to then Acting Chief Justice R.K.Agrawal to place it before a Division Bench to decide about the power of Security Review Committee which decides on providing security to those who require it.
He further submitted that even though the SRC rejected the recommendation of providing security, government was ready to provide bandobast on request by assessing the situation.
The bench then asked the SGP that if anything happens to the leaders who will be responsible to which SGP submitted that the petition seeking security was filed on September 6 and till date nothing has happened to them.
The SGP raised objection to the derogatory remarks made by the petitioner against the Chief Minister alleging that she was responsible for rejection of security and prayed that the allegations and remarks be ordered to be removed from the affidavit filed in support of the plea to which the bench agreed.
