HC dismisses Cong petition on holding rally at Nandigram
Press Trust of India Kolkata The Calcutta High Court today dismissed a writ petition by West Bengal Pradesh Congress for a direction to the state government to allow it to hold a public rally at Nandigram in West Midnapore district tomorrow.
The state Congress had moved the high court seeking a direction to the government to grant permission for its rally after it refused to do so as one of the owners of the land, on which it was to be held, had objected.
Justice Dipankar Dutta rejected the petition on the ground that the political party had not applied to the fire services department 15 days prior to the proposed date of the rally.
The judge also noted that one of the ten owners of the land had objected to the holding of the rally, but was not made a party in the petition by the petitioners.
