The mother of Surendra Khistayya Pulli, who died in prison, had filed a petition seeking compensation of Rs 10 lakhs on the ground that he was allegedly kept in unhygienic condition in Thane Central prison.
However, the court dismissed the petition on June 9, saying no grounds had been made out for the grant of compensation to the prisoner.
The petitioner Rajamma Pulli alleged that her son died on account of negligent attitude of the jail authorities since no treatment was given.
It was submitted that despite proper treatment given to Pulli, he had died on account of the incurable diseases.
The Medical officer of Nashik Central Prison also filed an affidavit saying the prisoner was given proper treatment in jail.
A bench comprising Justices V M Kanade and P D Kode observed, "We are satisfied that the allegations mentioned in the petition are not borne out from the record. Hence, the petition is dismissed.
