A division bench of Justices A S Oka and A A Sayyad rejected the public interest litigation challenging the government resolution (GR) issued on April 21, 2015 by which every child while securing admission in any school in the state has to submit a copy of his or her Aadhaar card.
As per the GR, the Aadhaar card number of the child should be linked with the registration number which would be maintained by the school.
The petition contended that not every child in the state would be in a position to procure an Aadhaar card.
The high court observed that the object of the GR is to ensure that every child in the state gets enrolled for education.
"The GR specifies for regular drives to be conducted to provide Aadhaar cards to children. We do not find the need to entertain this petition at this stage," the court said while dismissing the PIL.
