Petitioner S Yoga, daughter of one K Selvaraj, who lost his life, during a search operation against Veerappan, prayed for the court's direction to authorities to create and allot a seat in BHMS course commencing 2012-13.

She relied upon a police department order dated March 4, 1996, which, granted seats in government medical colleges, for children of the Special Task Force personnel, involved in the search for the forest brigand.

In its counter, the government submitted that no such provision was made available in the college prospectus to reserve seats in favour of children of STF personnel. "The petitioner is not challenging the prospectus issued for 2012-13 and admissions are over for the academic year," it said.

Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, in his order, said, "As the prospectus nowhere provides for reservation of the category in which the petitioner is claiming, no direction as sought for can be granted and hence the writ petition is dismissed."

Veerappan was shot dead in an encounter by STF in October 2004.
