The Madras High Court today dismissed a habeas corpus petition, seeking that DMK president M Karunanidhi's son M K Muthu be produced in the court, after the latter said he was not in illegal detention.
A division bench of justices C T Selvam and N Sathish Kumar dismissed the petition after recording an affidavit filed by Muthu, stating that he was not illegally confined.
Petitioner M K M Sheeba Rani, who claimed to be Muthu's daughter, had moved the court, alleging that her "father" was kept in illegal custody by her step-brother.
Rani, who claimed that she was born to Muthu and his second wife, had raised doubts on whether her 75-year-old "father" was alive or not and sought a direction to the police to produce him in court.
