HC disposes PIL seeking removal of statues erected on roads

Madras High Court today disposed a PIL seeking removal of illegally erected statues throughout Tamil Nadu.
The First Bench Comprising Acting Chief Justice Sathish K Agnihothri and Justice M M Sunderesh, after recording the statement made by Additional Government Pleader that the representation given by Traffic Ramaswamy will be considered, if it was not considered till date.
Ramaswamy, a social activist, in his PIL contended that the ruling party MLA K P Kandan had erected a statue of late Chief Minister and founder of AIADMK M G Ramachandran in Kanthandhavadi near here.
He submitted that he had already filed a PIL for removal of the statue of Tamil actor late Sivaji Ganesan, which is under adjudication.
Several statues were erected on the middle of roads in various places of Chennai obstructing free flow of traffic. He said he had already sent representation to the Chief Secretary and other concerned authorities to take action to remove all these unauthorized statues for which he had not received any response.
M S Ramesh, Additional Government pleader, submitted that if the representation of Ramaswamy is pending consideration, it would be considered in accordance with law and on its merits.
