The Madras High Court bench today voiced dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the Inspector General of Police (South Zone) on real estate- related crimes and directed the Director General of Police to file a detailed report on the same.
Justice N.Kirubakaran had earlier ordered the DGP and the Home Secretary to file a report on real estate-related crimes in the state while ordering a CBI probe into the murder of a Madurai-based real estate businessman K Jamal Mohammed in June this year.
The Judge also directed police today to provide enough infrastructure for CBI to investigate the case when Assistant Solicitor General G R Swaminathan said they needed some infrastructure to probe it.
Justice Kirubarakan observed that real estate business had become vulnerable and easy avocation for land-grabbers, brokers and criminals, saying Jamal Mohamed's murder had exposed "the dangerous and brutal face of real estate business."
"The case only speaks about what is happening in the real estate business for more than a decade. In the case, the victim, the main accused and some other accused have been in real estate business. It also proves another important fact about entry of criminals into politics", he said.
The judge also directed the Home Secretary and the DGP to submit today year-wise and district-wise details of crimes committed in connection with real estate transactions in the state in the last 10 years.
He was hearing a petition filed by Jainab Beevi, wife of Jamal Mohamed, seeking a CBI probe into the death of her husband.
Mohamed was abducted from this city and was found murdered at Kodaikanal in September.
