"Nobody comes to court with issues concerning attack on women. You call Mangalore the cultural capital of the state but attacks happen on women there," a division bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen observed while hearing a PIL seeking direction to Kendra Sahitya Academy to consider Konkani language for awards.
The Chief Justice was referring to the July 28 incident in which over 12 students, including girls, partying at a homestay on the outskirts of Mangalore were targetted by alleged 'Hindu Jagarana Vedike' activists, who accused them of indulging in "immoral activities".
TV footage showed them misbehaving with the girls and assaulting some of them.
The incident drew widespread condemnation and the BJP government said none would be spared for the "inhuman act".
