The court yesterday had directed the state government to immediately deploy adequate police personnel and install traffic signal systems at polytechnic crossing and Shahid Path end near the High Court building in order to remove traffic congestion.
A bench comprising justices A P Sahi and Vivek Chaudhary further directed the government to constitute a committee of secretaries of the departments concerned to chalk out a plan to curb the traffic menace in each corner of the city.
The court had expressed dissatisfaction over the measures taken by the National Highway Authority of India, the state government, the civic body, the Lucknow Development Authority, UP Road Transport Corporation and the PWD to ease traffic problems in the city.
Hearing a PIL by the name of Oudh Bar Association, which was suo-motu registered by the court, the bench illustrated the traffic problem at the polytechnic crossing.
It directed the authorities to complete the undergoing construction and repair work of Gomti barrage, Kukrail bridge and Polytechnic flyover.
