The Madras High Court today granted three weeks time to the government to a file counter on a plea seeking action against police for not taking steps on a representation for removing digital banners erected by DMK on the eve of their party chief M Karunanidhi's birthday.
The petition was filed by social activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy.
Justice M. Duraiswamy before whom the petition came up today, adjourned the matter after three weeks as the special government pleader sought three weeks to file the counter.
The petitioner cited an order in March last year by which no hoardings and banners could be displayed till a final decision was taken on the issue.
He submitted that on June 3, several unauthorized digital banners were erected on the sides of the road by office bearers of DMK and Congress from Guindy to Airport.
Despite his representation to police, no steps were taken for removing the banners, he said and sought action against the police inspectors "for their wilful failure to take steps against the violators.
