The Madras High Court today granted anticipatory bail to Premalatha, wife of DMDK founder-leader Vijayakant in a case relating to her speech at a public meeting in Gobichettypalayam on April 14, where she allegedly said drought relief funds were not distributed properly.
Justice P Devadoss directed her to execute a bond for Rs 10,000 and two sureties of like sum and appear before the police concerned as and when required.
Police had registered a case on a complaint by one Syed Pudansa, AIADMK town secretary of Gobichettypalayam, that Premalatha had allegedly stated at a public meeting in that town on April 14 that the drought relief fund was not properly distributed by Environment Minister Thoppu Venkatachalam.
Syed alleged she had stated that the fund was not distributed to really affected persons, but to relatives of the Minister, ruling party functionaries and those with no lands.
He also alleged that her speech was intended to provoke breach of peace.
After an FIR was filed, Premalatha had moved the Madras High Court, apprehending arrest.
