Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University on a plea filed by an Educational Trust in Villupuram District returnable by June 13 seeking to set aside the order of rejection by the University its application made for affiliation to start a law college.
Justice B Rajendran before whom the petition came up also issued notice to counsel Ramakannan who appeared for the University.
In his petition, the Vanniar Educational Trust president and PMK leader G K Mani submitted that on September 25, 2007 an application was made to the state government to issue NOC for starting a private law college. He alleged it was kept pending by the Government and after a long legal battle for six years, government issued No Objection Certificate last year.
The petitioner said after getting NOC, the trust again applied to the Registrar of Dr Ambedkar Law University for affiliation to start the law college which was again kept pending by the University following which a petition was filed.
The High Court directed the University to consider and pass orders on affiliation within three weeks. The University had appointed an inspection committee but even after the committee's recommendations, it has rejected the application made for affiliation to start the Law College without giving any opportunity as per regulations of the University, the petitioner submitted.
He claimed that the reasons stated in the rejection order were fully complied with and described it as "totally arbitrary and unreasonable" and prayed to set it aside.
