The Karnataka High Court today ordered issue of notices to the state government, Director General of Police, CBI and others on a petition seeking reinvestigation into a criminal case.
Justice Abdul Nazeer ordered issue of notices on a petition filed by P M Soudha, mother of P M Ajmal who died of burn injuries at the hostel premises of Academy of Aviation College in Devanahalli taluk here last year.
Ajmal, a second semester student of the college died of burn injuries at a government hospital on March 30, 2012.
The Chikkajala police recently filed a chargesheet against three accused, S Sachin, Anuraj and Solomon Santhosh for abetting suicide of Ajmal. While Solomon Santhosh was student of the same college, the other two were former students.
Soudha in her petition submitted that the police had earlier registered a case of murder against the same accused on the basis of the statement given by the victim immediately after the incident.
"Surprisingly, the chargesheet was filed for abetting suicide only to help the accused", the petitioner stated.
She further submitted that Ajmal's statement clearly disclosed that he was set ablaze and therefore the question of suicide does not arise.
She sought the CBI investigation into the matter to "dispel the mystery surrounding Ajmal's death".
