HC lifts stay on release of movie

Bollywood film 'Badmashiyaan' is expected to hit theatres tomorrow with the Delhi High Court lifting the stay on its release after the movie's producers paid a certain settlement amount to Multi Screen Media (MSM) which had alleged copyright infringement by the film's makers.
Justice Indermeet Kaur allowed the release of the movie after its producers VRG Motion Pictures Private Ltd submitted that it has paid the agreed-upon settlement amount to MSM, the Indian subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Television.
The two sides arrived at a settlement after the court had on February 24 suggested VRG to pay some money to MSM and get its movie released.

The court, thereafter, on February 26 had allowed publicising of the film after VRG agreed to pay the settlement amount, which has been kept confidential, to MSM.
'Badmashiyaan', starring Suzanna Mukherjee, Sharib Hashmi, Siddhant Gupta, Gunjan Malhotra and Karan Mehra, was slated for release on February 27.
On February 10, the court had put on hold the release of 'Badmashiyaan' as well as airing of its trailers on the plea of MSM which had alleged that VRG infringed its rights to make a remake of a Korean film, 'Couples'.
MSM had also alleged 'Badmashiyaan' was an adaptation of its film 'Mango' which is a remake of 'Couples'.

MSM had, in its petition filed through TMT Law Practice, also sought damages of Rs 25 lakh from VRG for infringing its copyright.
