A petition was filed in the Madras High Court today against continuance of Krishnan Baskar as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli.

When the writ of quo warranto petition by Manohara Justus came up for hearing, Justice R Sureshkumar posted it to July 17 to decide on its maintainability.

The petitioner contended that Baskar did not have the eligibility to occupy the post of Vice Chancellor as he had worked as Professor only for seven years while the UGC rules prescribed 10 years experience.

Besides, Baskar was not unanimously selected by the search committee and had been rejected by two of the three member search panel, he submitted.

Moreover, he had applied for the post after the stipulated date, the petitioner alleged.

He prayed the court to restrain Baskar from functioning as VC and issue a quo warranto to show cause under what authority he was continuing in the post.
