The Gujarat High Court today issued notices to the state government and the Director General of Police, acting on a plea which alleged that Valsad local police did not show the entire stock of seized liquor and even sold it to bootleggers.
Justice Abhilasha Kumari of the High Court issued notices to the state, Additional Chief Secretary of Gujarat Home Department, the DGP, the Inspector General of Police of Surat Range as well as the Valsad District Superintendent of Police and posted the next hearing of the matter to July 10.
The High Court acted after a Surat-based businessman Manoharsinh Chauhan's petition alleged that Valsad local crime branch police inspector V B Barad and his team did not show the entire stock of seized liquor in an FIR and had taken away the seized liquor to a petrol pump on Vapi Highway Number 8 before registering the FIR.
The plea alleged that after the accused policemen unloaded some quantity of liquor onto a private vehicle, they sold it to local bootleggers.
The petitioner stated that no action was taken against the policemen though he has video footage of the entire act and also complained about the issue to police authorities as well as the Gujarat Chief Minister.
The petitioner has demanded registration of an FIR in the case and initiation of action against the police personnel.
