The Chhattisgarh High Court today issued a notice to the state government seeking its reply over the appointment of 11 MLAs as parliamentary secretaries.
The division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjay Agrawal issued notices to all the 11 parliamentary secretaries, Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh and the state General Administration Department over a PIL filed by an RTI activist Rakesh Choubey challenging the appointments, Advocate General J K Gilda said.
The high court has sought their replies by the third week of February next year, he added.
According to the petitioner's lawyer, Abhyuday Singh, the PIL contended that the Constitution has no provision for the posts of parliamentary secretary and the appointments were made for political reasons to provide additional benefit to them.
The petitioner has sought quashing of the appointments and withdrawing all the facilities being given to them, Singh said.
