HC notice to TN govt on safety regulations in CFTPPs

The Madras High Court today ordered issue of a notice to Tamil Nadu government on framing of guidelines with respect to occupational safety and health regulations to be maintained by various industries in the backdrop of the recent Supreme Court judgement pertaining to Coal Fired Thermal Power Plants (CFTPP) across the country.
In a suo motu writ following the January 31 last apex court order, the court issued notice to the Chief Secretary, the Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, the Secretary, Energy Department, the Secretary, Health Department, and Rita Chandrasekhar appearing on behalf of Tamil Nadu State Pollution Control Board and G.Vasudevan for Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TANGEDCO).
A bench, comprising Justice M.Jeyachandran and Justice M Venugopal, directed the high court Registry to list the matter after two weeks.
The Supreme Court had in its order directed high courts to examine the issues with regards to safety measures and complying with the safety standards as per the reports of National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) in all CFTTPs in the country.
