Gujarat High Court has ordered CID investigation of a case where a mob allegedly led by former BJP MP Dinu Solanki attacked the house of a family at Kodinar town in Gir-Somnath district.
Justice J B Pardiwala also quashed the FIR filed by victim Jetunben Rafiqbhai Salot at Kodinar police station as it did not name Solanki as an accused and asked the police to file a fresh FIR.
"The Director General of Police shall appoint a competent officer from the CID at the earliest and ensure that a proper, unbiased and meaningful investigation is carried in the matter," the court said in the order last week.
Solanki, former BJP MP from Junagadh, is also an accused in the case related to murder of the RTI activist Amit Jethwa, who was killed outside the High Court on July 20, 2010.
In the present case, a mob allegedly led by Solanki and including some policemen from Kodinar police station attacked petitioner Jetunben Rafiqbhai Salot and her family, vandalised their house and also damaged a two-wheeler and a car.
The mob was looking for her husband Rafiq Salot, who was not at home, the petitioner said, adding that police arrived on the scene after four hours.
The FIR filed by police was not the true version of her complaint and alleged it changed and concocted certain things. She claimed that names of some "powerful persons" were missing from the FIR.
The HC directed that Jetunben shall be called to the police station concerned at the earliest for recording the FIR afresh and the DIG, CID, shall ensure that "no threats are issued to any of the family members of the victim or the people residing in the locality".
