In an embarrassment to Bihar government, Patna High Court today ordered that its stay on suspension of Patna Municipal Corporation(PMC) commissioner would continue.
A division bench of Justices V N Sinha and Prabhat Kumar Jha ordered that stay on PMC Commissioner Kuldip Narayan's suspension would continue till it gives another verdict.
The bench reserved its order for a future date and directed that Narayan will continue to function as PMC Commissioner till final adjudication of the matter.
The court kept with it the entire file relating to state government order to suspend PMC Commissioner which was presented before it by Principal Additional Advocate General Lalit Kishore.
While, ordering continuation of the stay on his suspension, the court told the commissioner to dispose 504 vigilance cases of construction of apartments in violation of municipal rules in the capital 'without succumbing to any pressure.'
With the HC yesterday ordering a stay on his suspension, Narayan returned to his office this morning.
Following approval of Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, the state government through a notification on Friday night had suspended Narayan on the charge of inefficiency.
The Urban development department had sent a recommendation to Manjhi against the PMC commissioner after finding his replies on six counts, including failure to keep the city clean and lack of steps to prevent outbreak of dengue in the capital, inadequate.
