HC orders medical examination of PMK MLA Guru

The Madras High Court today directed the authorities at the Central Prison at Puzhal here to arrange for medical examination of PMK MLA J Guru, lodged in the jail after his detention under the National Security Act, tomorrow to ascertain his health condition.
Passing an interim order on a petition filed by Guru's advocate, Justice K K Sasidharan directed the Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital here to constitute a medical team to examine Guru, arrested in connection with his alleged provocative speeches at PMK youth wing conference in April.
He was detained under the NSA on May 10 on the orders of Kancheepuram District Collector, challenging which he has filed a petition in the court.
Guru filed a miscellaneous petition stating that he was suffering from heavy spinal cord pain and required immediate medical treatment.
When the matter came up today, the judge directed the Superintendent of Central Prison to comply with the order and report compliance on August 7.
