HC orders notice to TN govt on

Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to the Tamil Nadu government, taking suo motu cognisance of a media report about a five-year old child, who had developed a cancerous tumor after being vaccinated in Erode district.
The division bench comprising Justices S Nagamuthu and Anitha Sumanth passed the order after it took note of the news item published in a Tamil daily, which said Anbarasu of Kumarapalayam in Erode district was administered vaccine at the age of one year, which later transformed into a cancerous tumor.

The bench then directed the Chairman of District Child
Welfare Committee, Erode and the Collector, Erode district to visit Anbarasu and persuade his parents to take the child to a hospital for treatment.
The judges also ordered the District Collector to make necessary arrangements to take the child to Adyar Cancer Institute here besides arranging for accommodation of the parents there.

The bench further directed the state Health Secretary to ensure that the child was treated at the Adyar Cancer Hospital or any other hospital at the advice of the treating doctors, at the cost of the government.
The Superintendent of Police, Erode district was also directed to provide adequate support to the District Collector.
The District Collector was asked to record the statements of the parents in case they decline to give consent to take the child for treatment and produce the same before the Court on March 27.
