Madras High Court bench here has issued a warrant for appearance of the Principal of a private higher secondary school in Kanyakumari District, who issued Transfer Certificate to a Plus One student, son of a daily wage earner, on the ground of poor performance in examination.
Justice K K Sasidharan ordered issue of the warrant through the local police to the Principal of Christuraja Matriculation and Higher Secondary School in Marthandam on August 25.
Petitioner P Rajendran said his son R V Raj Vino, who joined Plus One in the school in 2013-14, was being taught Plus Two subjects also in the first year itself.
Meanwhile, his son was bed ridden due to dengue fever for one week and the Principal advised him to give attention to his studies and asked him to write supplementary examination.
After the supplementary examination, the Principal asked him to get his son's TC since he was poor in plus two subjects and would not score high marks. He said the reputation of the school would be affected, the petitioner submitted.
The petitioner contended that by the time the TC was given, admissions in other schools were closed. The Principal acted against the rules when he failed the student at the verge of opening of classes for Plus Two.
He said though he was a daily wage earner, he had spent Rs 1.51 lakh on the education of their only son by way of school fees and tuition.
Despite his appeals to the Principal to readmit his son and his brother-in-law's representation to the Chief Education Officer and District Education Officer, there was no response, the petitioner said.
