HC permits PMK to hold conference on disputed land on Feb 27

The Madras High Court today permitted PMK to hold its state-level conference on February 27 at a site belonging to a private housing company after accepting a modification petition from the party.
The division bench comprising justices K K Sasidharan and M Venugopal directed PMK to pay Rs 35 lakh as licence fee for using the land in question, which extends over 95.74 acres.
It said a demand draft for the amount should be deposited with Registrar General of High Court by12 noon onFebruary 13.
The bench also lambasted VGP Housing Private Limited for granting permission to PMK to use the land for the meet by misinterpreting its order and directed it to pay Rs one lakh as costs to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vandalur.
It said taking into account VGP Housing (P) Ltd's conduct in misinterpreting the interim order of the division bench, the company is directed it to pay Rs one lakh as cost to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vandalur in three days, failing which it would be recovered as arrears of land revenue."
The matter relates to the political conference to be held by PMK at Kilambakkam in Kancheepuram district on the disputed land over which a case is pending before the high court.

Earlier in the day, PMK had requested for a change in the conference date due to paucity of time, but the bench had refused to entertain the request.
However, PMK filed a modification petition to permit the conference in any other date in the same place.
The same bench then allowed the petition for a change in date of the meet to February 27.
