HC pulls up U'khand govt for being not serious about glacial
Press Trust of India Nainital The Uttarakhand High Court today pulled up the state government for treating lightly the dangerous formation of a glacier near Gaumukh which could cause Kedarnath-like tragedy in the future.
A division bench of Chief Justice KM Joseph and Justice VK Bisht termed the state government's attitude to the situation as non-serious and directed it to take the help of agencies such as ISRO and NDRF to ward off any such possibility.
The court asked the government to file a speedy reply in the matter and take serious steps to prevent any disaster which may be caused due to the situation.
The court's directive came on a PIL, filed by Delhi resident Acharya Ajay Gautam, which brought to its notice that a glacier has formed near the point of Ganga's origin Gaumukh which can cause a Kedarnath-type devastation in the near future.
