The Allahabad High Court today quashed the election of Dinesh Yadav as president of Allahabad University Students Union.
The judgement, passed by Justice Arun Tandon, came nearly seven months after the results of the students unions election were declared.
The order was passed on a writ petition filed by student leader Abhishek Singh, who had lost to Yadav in the students union polls.
Challenging the election of Yadav, Singh claimed that Yadav had failed in his MA IInd year examination in the academic session 2011-12, which "disqualified him for the polls" in view of regulations of the University of Allahabad Student Union as notified on July 14, 2012.
Singh claimed in his petition that Yadav has been associated with the students wing of the ruling Samajwadi Party, and was "ineligible to be a candidate" in the students' union elections hence he could not be elected to the post of an office-bearer of the union.
The petitioner had further claimed that Yadav was rusticated from the University vide an order dated 06.11. 2008 and though his rustication was revoked after a year, the disciplinary action faced by him left him disqualified in accordance with the aforementioned Regulations.
The petitioner claimed that Yadav had also exceeded the maximum age limit on the date of election.
