Justice K K Sasidharan who quashed the order of the Board of Governors in supersesion of MCI yesterday, remitted the matter of recognition to the institution again to MCI.
The institution, granted recognition by MCI upto 2012-13, was inspected by a MCI team on Feb 16 and 17 this year. Since a CBI case was pending against the Dean and other functionaries, MCI kept the approval application pending.
Meanwhile CBI filed a chargesheet before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, Chennai, naming the Managing Director, Secretary, Dean and Administrative Officer as accused. However, they filed discharge petitions before the concerned Court and got discharged.
Students admitted during the academic year 2008-09 had also filed petitions to direct MCI and Tamil Nadu Medical Council to recognise internship training undergone by them in the institution after finishing their MBBS course.
Justice Sasidharan observed the Governing Council should have given an opportunity to the institution to explain its position on the ethics committee's recommendations and quashed the order of it debarring the admission of students.
