The Delhi High Court has pulled up the city government for not complying with its order to rehabilitate slum dwellers and sought the presence of a senior official of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
Justice Vibhu Bakhru sought the presence of the allotment director of DUSIB for "wifullly" not complying with the court's order to rehabilitate all the 223 people evicted from a slum in the national capital.
"Director allotment is the concerned officer responsible for implementation of this order. Let him be present in court. Prima facie order passed by this court was wilfully not complied with.
"No response has been filed on the show cause notice issued. In this view, it would be appropriate to call the officer on the next date of hearing in the court," the court said.
Earlier, the court had issued a show-cause notice to the government asking it to explain why it had not rehabilitated all the 223 slum dwellers.
DUSIB had had decided to rehabilitate only four families instead of the 223 people evicted from the slum where they had been living before May, 1998.
The slum dwellers had approached the court saying the government has not complied with its February, 2010 order to rehabilitate the slum dwellers, who were evicted from their hutments as per the Master Plan-Delhi 2021, by giving an alternative site within four months.
The slum dwellers have sought contempt of court proceedings against the Delhi chief secretary and the DUSIB CEO, among others, saying the government is taking the stand that only those who were party to the petition would be eligible for rehabilitation.
