Dismissing the plea of the student seeking to quash the order of the Principal denying him permission to attend the classes and write BA final semester examination, Justice S Vaidhyanathan agreed with the contention of the Principal of the Vivekanantha College, Thiruvedagam, here that if rules and regulations were relaxed to suit the convenience of one student, then the future of the institution would be in peril.
The judge said though it was a fit case to impose costs on the petitioner in view of the fact that the petitioner's parents would have to bear the expenses for the misconduct committed by the student.
The student was found drunk on March 15 and he was sent home and debarred from writing the examination and attending classes after the disciplinary committee inquiry in which the student confessed to the mistake.
The judge said the younger generation should concentrate on their studies rather than spending their time in an extravagant manner and their duty towards the nation was inevitable and precious. When the whole country depended on them, they should be careful, the judge said.
