Elangovan's counsel requested Justice S Vaidyanathan to relax the conditions laid down by the court while granting bail on August 24, that his client sign daily before the Thallakulam police station at Madurai.
The judge initially said Elangovan should sign before Teynampet police station here where the FIR was registered against him. The counsel then requested the court not to treat his client on par with others as he is a politician and leader of a national party, who has many political duties to attend to.
On August 28, the HC had declined to relax the bail conditions and had restricted the number of persons accompanying Elangovan while fulfilling the norms.
Justice Vaidyanathan had rejected Elangovan's prayer that he be allowed to stay here and sign before the Inspector of a local police station.
