The Madras High Court today allowed authorities to register the deeds for resale of unapproved housing plots, giving a big relief to the individuals who had bought such properties earlier with proper registration.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice RMT Teekaa Raman permitted the resale of unapproved housing plots while modifying its earlier order which had put a blanket ban on the registration of their sale and resale.
Earlier on September 9 last year, the court had banned the sale and resale of the unapproved housing plots and layouts across Tamil Nadu on a petition by Elephant G Rajendran, who had sought steps to stop 'indiscriminate' conversion of the agricultural land into the one for non-agricultural use.
But the bench today relaxed its earlier order on the pleas by a batch of petitioners affected by the September 9 order and seeking to be made parties to the PIL filed by Rajendran.
The bench said the interests of the poor and the innocent people who had purchased unapproved plots for the personal use should be protected and posted the matter to April 11.
In January last, the then first bench of the high court had declined to accede to the prayers of the real estate developers to relax its order.
