Court today reserved its order on a PIL seeking to rectify an error, while translating the name of "Madras High court--Madurai Bench",as "Madras Uyar Neethi Manram Madurai Kilai"
The petitioner S Subramaniam, President of Tamizh Thangi Sangam (Tamil bearing association), said "first there is a conjuction mistake whereby the Tamil letter "ik" had been missed.
Or it should have been written as "Madras Neethi Mandranthin (With Possessive Clause-Madrash High court's) Madurai kilai. Besides the use of word Kilai, for Bench itself is wrong.
The Literal translation of the work "Kilai" is "branch" and not Bench. The meaning of the word bench is "Long chair that can seat more than one person"
Hence the tamil name of the Madras high court Madurai Bench should be written as "Madras Uyar Neethi Manra Madurai Neel Irukkai"The Petitioner said.
Justices S.Manikumar and C.T.Selvam after hearing the arguements reserved the Judgement.
