HC seeks Chennai police commissioner's appearance before it

: The Madras High Court has asked the Chennai police commissioner to appear before it on Monday for his failure to submit status report on the serious criminal cases pending probe.
The order for appearance of Police Commissioner S George was issued by Justice S Vaidyanathan.'
Incidentally, it's for the second time that the high court has sought George's appearance before it.
He faces another direction to appear before the court in another matter involving a contempt petition on March 22.
While summoning George a few days ago, Justice Vaidyanathan had flayed the officer's attitude for his failure to comply with the judicial orders.
Justice Vaidyanathan had directed George on August 22 last to submit a status report in the court on cases pending before the Central Crime Branch (CCB) up to 2011.

The judge had also directed expeditious investigation and filing of the charge sheets in two months and asked the court registry to send a communication to all the police stations through the police commissioner for this purpose.
The judge had further asked the police officer to categorise the cases under separate heads to enable the high court ascertain whether there was any nexus between the accused and the police in the cases.
The order had further stipulated that if the report was not filed, the police commissioner will have to appear before the court to give an explanation verbally and in writing thereafter.
But the police failed to submit the requisite report till date, prompting the court to order the officer's appearance before it.
