HC seeks compliance report

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court today sought compliance report from the Home department officials and police on the steps taken to give protection to R.Fathima, an aide of PIL litigant 'Traffic' Ramasamy, and also action taken against illegal hoardings and those who put them in Kumbakonam and Papanasam taluks.
A Division Bench of Justice S.Tamilvanan and Justice V.S.Ravi directed police to file their compliance report by March 9.
The petitioner,in her contempt petition, submitted that the court had given orders to consider her representation to take criminal action against those who had put up banners on pavements,medians and signals,which affected the movement of the People and caused risk to road users,and those allowing people to illegally occupy municipal shops.
She was threatened by one of the shop owners. The court had ordered to give protection to her within two weeks,but no action was taken following which the contempt plea was filed.
