The Bombay High Court today directed the Pune district police to probe afresh the alleged suicide of a 19-year-old boy in 2005.
The division bench of Justices S C Dharmadhikari and S B Shukre was hearing a petition filed by the deceased boy's mother, Priyanka Khare, a practicing physician, seeking CBI probe.
She alleges foul play by her estranged husband, Narayan, in the death of their eldest son, Siddharth.
The bench, while directing the Khed police in the district to lodge an FIR, also asked Superintendent of Police to supervise the probe and get monthly reports.
According to the petition, Priyanka and Narayan married in 1985 and had three children. After their relations soured and they separated, Siddharth was living with his father, after securing admission to medical college.
On September 20, 2005, Siddharth allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself.

Priyanka alleges that it was her husband who strangulated her son. According to her, Narayan was pressurising her to transfer her ancestral properties including a ten-bed hospital in Pune in his name.
According to the petition, the pattern of ligature marks on Siddharth's neck suggested a homicidal death and not a suicide.
The court, while refusing to order a CBI inquiry, said the police should probe the case.
