The Madras High Court today sought a report from officials of External Affairs Ministry, including Protector General of Emigrants, on the steps taken on a representation made by A Antony Yagappa to bring the body of his daughter, who died under "suspicious circumstance" in Saudi Arabia.
The petitioner submitted that his daughter, A Immaculate, was recruited in a company in Saudi Arabia through its agents in Tamil Nadu in October 20 last year. But as his daughter complained that she was not allowed to use phone and not given good food, he had asked her to return.
He said though he made repeated pleas to the company to send her back, they did not take any step.
However, he was told by the company on May 21 that his daughter committed suicide by hanging herself, following which he filed a complaint with police and submitted a representation to take steps to bring back the body to the Thanjavur District Collector, who forwarded it to Protector General of Emigration.
However, no steps had been taken, he contented.
He prayed before the court to direct the External Affairs Ministry Officials and Chief Secretary and Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu to take steps to bring back the body to India.
Admitting the petition, Justice T Raja sought to know from External Affairs Ministry what action had been taken by them on the representation made by the petitioner.
