HC sore over poor maintenance of highways, roads in UP
Press Trust of India Lucknow Expressing displeasure over poor maintenance of highways and roads in Uttar Pradesh, the Allahabad High Court today said it expected that the central and state governments would complete renovation work of Lucknow-Allahabad Highway by December 15.
The Lucknow bench of the court also directed that all the pending issues related to it should be addressed at a joint meeting of secretary, central road transport department, UP chief secretary and principal secretary PWD.
The order was passed by a division bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Krishana Murari on a PIL related to renovation of the highway.
The court further directed that the progress and status report be placed by next date of hearing.
On behalf of the state government, Advocate General Vijay Bahadur Singh alleged that despite request and efforts made by the state government, the central government and National Highway Authority Of India (NHAI) were not giving response.
The court fixed December 15 as the next date of hearing.
