: The Madras High court bench today stayed a murder case trial in a lower court in Srivilliputhur in which a former minister T Inbathamizan and his three brothers were allegedly involved.
Admitting a petition filed by the wife of DMK functionary Annadurai Selvan who was murdered in 2007, allegedly by some AIADMK functionaries, Justice C T Selvam ordered notice to the Special Public Prosecutor, Srivilliputhur and local police and adjourned the case.
The petitioner claimed that more than 10 persons, including Inbathamilan and his brothers, sons of former AIADMK MLA R Thamaraikani, were involved in the murder.
She alleged that they have strong political connections and are influential persons. Inbathamizan, being a former minister, had close links with police and the prosecuting officers, she said.
One of the brothers is a lawyer practising in Srivilliputhur, while another is councillor of that municipality, she said, adding that the atmosphere in the town is 'not conducive for a free and fair trial'.
The trial should be conducted outside Srivilliputhur under the supervision of a police official in the rank of an Superintendent of Police, she said.
