The Madras High Court today stayed further proceedings against Puducherry Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on the file of the Judicial Magistrate Court at Yanam which has arraigned him as an accused following a complaint that he had furnished "false details" in his election affidavit.
The court admitted the criminal original petition filed by Krishna Rao seeking quashing of proceedings before the JM, Yanam, an enclave of the Union territory in Andhra Pradesh, and stayed further proceedings.
The JM court arraigned the minister as an accused based on a complaint given by one Manga Veerababu of Yanam.
According to the complaint, the minister during the "Assembly election held in 2011" filed an election affidavit with "false details with regarding to educational qualification and value of property".
Refuting all the charges in his criminal original petition, the minister said first of all the date and year of election mentioned in the complaint itself was wrong as no election was held for the Assembly in 2011 and the polls were held only in 2012.
In his plea, the minister said the complainant has not approached the JM court "with clean hands and has committed misrepresentation of facts" and sought quashing of the proceedings besides calling for the records.
