Madras High Court has stayed conduct of written examinations, slated for tomorrow, for recruiting 18 Junior Assistants in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC).
The interim order was issued by Justice K. Ravichandrabaabu on a batch of petitions by contract employees of TASMAC who submitted that the candidates for the examination had been selected based on the list provided by the Employment Exchange and there was no public advertisement calling for applications.
Staying the examination for two weeks, the Judge yesterday ordered issue of notice to the Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, TASMAC Managing Director and the Secretary, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
"I am satisfied that the method adopted by the TASMAC in filling up the Junior Assistant Post needs to be scrutinised by this Court in detail after considering the rival pleadings as well as the submissions," the Judge observed.
He directed TASMAC to furnish the list of candidates invited to write the test and also ordered them to be impleaded.
Petitioners, including R.Mayakrishnan, a supervisor of TASMAC shop at Sathamampattu in Cuddalore District, contended that they were also eligible to be appointed to the posts, but they were not given an opportunity to apply for the test.
The method of recruitment only through the Employment Exchange was against the decision of Supreme Court which had held that the public advertisements must be issued inviting applications.
