Taking serious view of non-appearance of investigating officers, the Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu DGP not to send them on special duties on specific dates where their presence is required in courts.
A division bench of Justices C T Selvam and N Sathish Kumar passed the order when a habeas corpus plea with regard to missing of a mentally challenged woman came up.
"The DGP shall ensure that the proceedings of this court are not hampered by posting the officers on other duty when their presence is necessary before this court on the specific dates of hearing," the court said.
It directed the DGP to ensure that police officials whose presence is required at least in so far as HCP's filed by anxious parents, brothers, sisters and relatives of missing persons seeking production of detenues are concerned as such cases are adjourned to specific dates.
