The Madras High Court today posted to February 27 the final arguments in the 23-year-old duty evasion case against AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala's husband M Natarajan, while importing a luxury car from the UK.
Natarajan and three others were convicted for conspiracy, forgery, cheating and tax evasion and sentenced to two years in jail in the case by a CBI court in 2010.
However, the order was stayed by the High Court against which the CBI had filed a petition.
During the tenure of Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who was recently elevated to the Supreme Court, the CBI had sought an early hearing of the case.
Justice S Bhaskaran, before whom the appeals filed by Natarajan and others came up for hearing today, posted them to February 27 for final arguments.
The case relates to the import of a Lexus car in 1994, declaring it as a used vehicle.
The CBI and Enforcement Directorate had registered separate cases against Natarajan and three others after it was found that the documents presented by them were fabricated, allegedly causing a duty loss of more than Rs one crore to the exchequer.
